pass. fenders please eval.
« on: March 28, 2012 - 02:08:50 PM »

would you use any of these?  the body line is shot.   Blue one was on the car and is rot free, just dented all over the place...  the others I purchased long ago.

THanks! I may need to shop for one at future swap meets.

All of them can be used.  I think I would rather get the dents out and not fix the rust.  Just my opinion
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

Use the black one and cut and patch the lower dog leg from the blue one. Or just try and find a nice one for a few hundred or something depends how good you are with the welder/body work.

How does the inside look on these. If no rust on the inside, then I would attach it to the car and
practice your hammer and dolly work. If you get it close, a skim coat of mud should
make it look real nice. In the end it just depends on how much you like money
and how much time you are willing to spend on it.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I say use them.  They will be a better fit than the reproduction metal anyway.

Well, without trying to be contrary and with the obligatory nod to retaining OEM parts, my answer to your initial question would be..no. If they were the last pair of fenders you could find or if we were in Africa, maybe; but the question remains- can you make enough money in 2 days to buy a better one, or not, 'cause that's how long it'll take ya to try to resurrect those sad puppies and you'd better be a decent bodyman to do it, too. Sorry.  :2cents:

I agree. If there were none available and you had no choice ,then fix them, but between getting them straight and cutting out the rot,you will have no less than 2 days in each. Find better fenders or buy new ones.

If your bodywork skills are like mine, you'll put four days into them and they'll be worse than when you started, and you'll end up buying new ones anyway.

Thanks all, I am searching for a decent fender as suggested... good advice  :worshippy

I want to practice on these.... would like to fix the black fender using the bent up original that is now blue.

Do I replace the entire dog leg as I think you guys call it and use a smaller piece of the lower sheeetmetal?  or cut through everything  on the lower part and weld it back on the other.
