Question on the 70-71 overhead console wiring?
« on: March 14, 2012 - 02:55:24 PM »
This question is about the 70-71 overhead console wiring. Regarding the door jam switches with this option. Does it use the existing switches with 2 or 3 prongs? Does it use addition different, dedicated, door jam switches, with single or 2 or 3 prongs? Is it just one extra dedicated switch or are there dedicated switches on both sides? If so, where exactly are these switches located? Can someone who has this option on there E-body, take some pictures of these switches on both right and left sides of the car? If anyone knows, are there any major changes with regards to the switches or wiring between 70-71 model years?

Thanks everybody

I know almost nothing about the overhead console wiring, but door jamb switches should be the same as those without the overhead console.

Having said that, I hope you have the two prong switches on both doors. 71 had a 3 prong switch on the drivers door that isn't easy to find.

it uses existing d0or switches with 2 prongs for the dome light in 70 & a separate switch at the rear of the door for the door ajar light .
I believe the 71 used a 3 prong switch on the drivers side .
 sorry no pix handy

Hello Chryco Psycho,

Do you mean the 71 E-bodies, with the overhead consoles, DID NOT HAVE, the rear of the door switches?
