That "Getting Close" feeling :)
« on: March 20, 2012 - 09:03:36 PM »
just thought I would share my status right now (73 chally), because many of you who have you're mopars going down the road, have at one time or another felt the same feeling.  I'm getting close to getting it on the road.  Tonight I got my trunk lid bolted on, one step closer.  Got to button up a few things like ordering some carpet (any tips on best place would be appreciated) and get it installed, get my passenger side window installed, find some parking lamp lenses and put them on, paint and mount my front valance, getting the rest of my interior installed, changing out speedo cable, get my windshield wipers working, and change the fluids.  Get it tagged, then run it a few mins down the road for an alignment and let a mopar pro get all my gaps with my hood and doors a little better. THEN, I'm looking forward to summer of enjoying the d@mn thing!  :burnout: Granted, there will be break in time, tweaks to be made, but this is 7 years in the making and I'm ready to finally get some enjoyment out of it.  Now I'm not done by no means...they never are.  The paint needs to be touched up where a few chips happened during reassembly, repaint my hood and trunk hinges (missed a few places) I'd like to get a headliner installed and new seat covers eventually, I'd like to get a sure grip unit and 3.91 gears for the rear end, put an aftermarket tach in and there are a few extra pieces here and there. But you know what, that stuff can come in its own time. These Challenger's are still the sharpest things on the road  at 90% done, and a non mopar guy or people from my generation won't know the difference anyway  ;) I guarantee, you pull up in a 73 challenger with young ppl of my generation, every "i dotted" show care or driver like mine, these kids' jaw will hit the floor. Especially when I tell em I did the work myself.   :working: SOOO ready to cruise down the road and not hear anything but a screamin' 340. I can feel it, I can taste it, I can smell it... its 7 years in the making, and I know it will put a smile on my face and other's face as well.  Just had to share some happy news for once. Look out NC, in a month or so, this old dinosaur will be back pulling into cruises, and saturday night ride arounds...Truth be told, even though she ain't nowhere perfect, I truly am proud of her and the work I've learned to do.    :bananasmi

That's what these cars are all about, being cool. These cars are so rare and unique that they always command attention and respect. Very few people can have one of these cars "perfect". So congrats and I hope it gives you a million grins!

Best place to get carpet, I've read is ECS. If you aren't to concerned about original - ask for "extra deep cut pile" ECS is the place to go to. I've seen it over and over in posts.

Just be thankful you don't have to work on restoring other people's junk while yours sits to pay the bills...

That can take all the fun out QUICK.

Working on my Challenger had to take a back seat TWICE now. First, the kids '66, then my Cousin's Camaro.
Getting that same feeling though on both. Camaro got alot closer last night as I replaced all the rear window channel with custom made pieces.
