1st day at the track!

The time I built the 440 for the Duster, I wanted it very conservative, but with respectable power.

Now most of you know this is a very quick car and respectable for the altitude we have to deal with!

Anyways, I decided to run an Edelbrock 750 carb. Chryco was insisting on a Holley! (Iknow better now!)

So the first race of that season, we get our first time trial early that am. Drove the car to the track, fresh engine, etc.
I run a 13.66. Okay! I did expect more, but was happy as I last ran the car with a built up 318 at 16.0.

Well after Chryco does some checking, discovers...a sparkplug wire had fallen off, so I had run that with 7 cylinders working!

Then as we took the time to finetune everything over the rest of the season, I ended up running 12.45!

No slicks, good Hoosier dirt racing tires L60 15, steel rims all around (extra weight), home made ram air, hydraulic cam/lifters, stock rockers/pushrods, pump gas!

End result was so satisfactory to me because, all we did is tune and tune and tune the NOW New Holley carb! That just showed me firsthand what proper tuning can do!!!!

And don't buy a Carter/Edelbrock carb if you want performance and easy tuning!!!

P.S. The Edelbrock carb I once owned? We had even hand made meetering rods for it as none were even manufactured for the performance we needed! Let that be a lesson to ya!

All fun of course!
Thanks Chryco! and Merry Christmas my friend!!!!!!!!

I have a 750 Eddy on my 440 with a MP 509 Cam
Any suggestions.  It seems to work as well as the 750 holley I borrowed but I am not much of a tuner yet
