Interior Door Panel Upper Clips
« on: March 20, 2012 - 09:32:36 PM »
There are 3 clips that get inserted into the upper backside of the interior door panels.  I note that after install of my door panels, the window seals installed on the door panels do not fit tight up against the glass along the full length.  Does anyone know if the 3 clips are supposed to draw the panel in towards the glass which would then close these gaps.  I cannot see how these clips restrain the door panel from moving the door panel from side to side (inboard/outboard).  They seem to interface somehow with a metal lip that is part of the door.

On my 70 there is only 1 clip at the top of the panel. It fits over the top lip of the door and pulls the panel close to the glass. The screws at both ends of the door tighten the panel up to where it's supposed to be. Does this answer your question?

Does the clip locate above the rolled lip on the door, or below?

I believe above. I'll try to get a picture this evening that will hopefully help.

Here are a couple pictures. One is the single clip on my panel. The other is of the door. The purple is what the clip goes over and pulls the panel close to the glass. It takes a bit of effort to get it clipped correctly. I'm guessing that if you have a gap mid-span, the clip isn't over the metal of the door and it is forcing the panel away from the glass.

peterro, thanks

Now they fit perfectly.  By positioning the clips over the door lip and pressing downward to preload the clips, and while applying downward pressure, I installed the upper scews.  Once installed, I worked downward to the bottom clips and snapped them into place. Then I grabbed the upper part of the door panel and applied a little torque and they snapped into place.  Perfect fit and the seal is snug down the length of the panel.

Excellent. That sounds about how mine went together. Glad to hear it worked.
