    Lost Starter Bolt

    My top bolt that holds the starter in place apparently fell out sometime this weekend.  The bottom one needs tightening but is still in place.  Does anybody know what thread pattern, diameter and length of that top starter bolt?  Also, is there a sleeve that goes in there too from the starter side?   From what I can see, it looks like the starter flange end where the bolt goes in is a larger diameter than the end where it threads out into the housing.  Is that correct or is it just look that way to me? Thanks!

    Thanks for the link but I'd like to buy one and install it either tonight or tomorrow.  I need it sooner than they can ship a set to me.  I was hoping to go to an auto parts store and get a bolt that works.  But from the looks of the one bolt that might not be possible.

    Go to ACE hardware and go back and forth till you get it right.

    Maybe buy this book too so next time if you ever run into this problem with something else, you can find out in the book.

    O.K. I found it. IN the Book.

    A. Top (upper bolt)
    1. 7/16" - 14 x 1.40" Lg. Hex head SEMS bolt Zinc grade finish 5

    B. Lower stud
    7/16" -14 and 20 x 2" lg. stud Zinc finish. the 14 thread count threads into the transmission bellhousing.

    Thanks!  I was looking for a book like that.  It's a bit pricey but I've run across missing fasteners/incorrect fasteners many times.

    Trust me! It's money well spent if you want your car done right.

    Get the book; get the AMK catalog, & look at pictures from Hoovers Auto Parts and R/T Specialties.

    That is how I hunt down my hardware, clips, etc. 

    Sometimes a little detective work can help you find out what you need if you have the information readily available.
