alternator question

Looking to replace my alternator  and wat to know if a 60 a  is the right one to  use? Been reading about   cooked ammeters,bypass' got methinking i dont want to risk fire.  74 non   ac,but may be an option  later  no other accs.   Can  i  keep my nonrallye   ammeteror  should  it be changed? Help

you can run a bypass wire to take load off of the bulkhead connections.There is a thread on this,just run a 10 gauge wire from alt to starter relay.That was the first thing i did since the challenger i bought had 7 burnt wires on the dash harness do to the main alt wire in the bulkhead.Common prob with the challenger i was told.Search BURNT ALT WIRE and you should be able to find the thread.I dont know what your car calls for in amps so i wouldnt be able to guild you on this. CHRYCO or MOPARLEO can help you on that. god bless

60 - 70 amp is fine , the probability of ever putting out max amperage is very minimal unless you have a bad battery or short in the alt . Running a bypass wire from the alt to the start relay is a good safety precaution as well .
