Horn Issues

My horns were grounding out at the column, so I took it apart and found that the small insulated ring under the brass contact wheel on the crush can was completely deteriorated. I replaced that with a grommet which seemed to work perfectly. Problem now is- when I put pressure on the top of the steering wheel itself and press down- the horn goes off, so I still have a grounding issue, right?
Is there some insulator or spacer that prevents the crush can from making contact with the steering column where they meet?

there was no insulater between my crush can and steering column,it sounds like your horn contact is still grounding out.
What does it profit a man to gain the whole would and lose his soul.

I had a similar symptom. I had something put together wrong.  I'll check my notes and photos when I get home.

Thanks                                       :banghead: theres no ring(sort of),the deterioated ring you found was probably dried remains of rubber from the hornswitch(brass contact wheel under crush can) the hornswitch should have soft rubber covering both sides of it.when the rubbercover gets old it gets hard and cracks.i found a nos o ebag from another mopar product,just needed a bit longer wire to reach up through the crush can. or maybe there is a way to dip it in something to get it a new insulation? fix it or the horn will honk when you turn the wheel..
