1965 Barracuda
« on: April 19, 2012 - 01:49:31 AM »
I am in the market for a Barracuda and just got done looking at one today, I notice that it did not have power steering and the brakes were really hard to push in. I am guessing that i would eventually need to put in a power steering and disk brakes. Have any of you guys done this and how much am I looking to spend to do this. He is asking 8k but I do not want to dump a too much money to work out the steering issue and brakes.

8G would buy a very nice '65.   Power steering may not be to bad if you can find good used, maybe 2-300 double that to used rebuilt parts. I've driven a couple of non-power a-bodys and didn't think they were hard to steer at all, some alignment  adjustments may solve that. I see more folks changing to manual steering on this site than going to power.
I imagine it has drum front brakes and you would at least want to upgrade to disk if not power disk, you would end up getting new/rebuilt parts for the most part but can still accomplished for under $500 but most folks spend a little more to go power probably getting a kit with all new parts. You will probably need new wheels to clear the brake caliper.

Here's a good overview of the brake upgrade http://www.moparaction.com/Tech/archive/disc-main.html

Decent option to go new http://www.getdiscbrakes.com/disc-brake-conversion-kits/front-brake-kits.aspx
I notice the lug bolt pattern is 4.5" which is larger than stock
Price 775-975 http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/ristdedicoki.html
