Hello everyone, rebuilding '70 Challenger
« on: February 08, 2012 - 10:49:08 AM »
Hello,
My name is Tim, I'm a 28 year old Minnesotan, and I just started restoring/rebuilding a 1970 Challenger 440 magnum R/T w/727.  I grew up lusting after muscle cars, and from an early age I knew I really wanted to own a '70 Challenger.  I'm new to posting in a forum but the time has come to start participating instead of just reading.  So far all I have done on the car is the motor is close to being ready to pull, as well as the transmission.  I'm starting to hit a few little things that I can't quite figure out, so I figured there'd be friendly people here willing to help!

My hopes for the car are to rebuild the motor with some mods, replace existing 727 with A833 or some other manual option, TTI headers, Hotchkis TVS, etc, but keeping the body and interior mostly stock.  It's going to be quite a project, but I'm having a lot of fun with it.  Here are a couple of photos of the car, sorry I don't really have any good ones yet.  I'll try to get more detailed photos soon.

Sweet car you have there. I love the engine pic. However it was done, it looks like it's a scale model.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!  I'm looking forward to learning from everybody and getting all of your input.

06Daytona- my buddy took the filtered pictures with his iphone and did something to them to make them look like that, not sure how he did it:)

MizzouRT- I have been very inspired by the Hotchkis E-Max challenger as far as how I want the car to be able to perform.  I'm hoping to get into the neighborhood of 550-600HP after build.  It probably won't be a show winner when it's done, but hopefully a fantastic drive :)  Might even see some autocrossing.

Thank you and hello to you, too.  I'm out in Chaska, working on it in my garage currently.  Made some progress tonight already with the help of some folks from CC, I can tell I'm in the right place and will enjoy participating in all the fun!

Welcome from your northern neighbour!  :canada: :wavingflag:
Great looking ride!  I too wanted a 70 Challenger from an early age ( 9) finally got it at 41. I have quite a few Hotchkis parts on mine, you will love them!  Enjoy the site! You need to get yourself down to Carlisle! It's a blast!

Thanks for the compliments guys!  It's funny, with all the cars we grow up loving, how sometimes people fixate on just one car that they just have to have.  It's almost like you create a relationship with the car before you even get it, almost as though you and the car find your way to each other.  Alright, enough getting sappy thinking about my car...

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.
