Wheel bearings

Just put one of the front rotors back on after being turned with new bearings. The rotors were off an a-body. It installed well enough but now I can't get the cotter pin in the hole on the spindle. I think there may be an issue with the bearings. Could it be something I've done wrong or do you think it is the wrong bearings?

It does sound like you may have a miss matched set up there, or you hadn't slid the rotors and seal up all the way to the backing plates. If the bearings did fit in your races correctly, you also need to check the I.D. of the bearing and O.D. of the spindal.  I believe there are around 3 different sizes between yr models of A B and E body front spindals. If not seating right, then your calipers will not fit right.  Are you trying a conversion of some type?

I think you're on the right track. The races were replaced with the bearings so I know those match. It seems reasonable that the rear bearing isn't going all the way over the spindle. I'll probably take the spindle down to the shop to find the right parts.

I'm converting to disks from front drums. I know the spindles/rotors are a-body but don't know exactly what they came on.

Did I read that right ?? you are converting from front disc to DRUM ??
you need a totally different spindle for Drum brakes

Ok, we've tried 2 different inner bearings for A bodies and neither of them were big enough to fit over the spindle. The dimension of the spindle is ~1.38". We did find a close match from a Dodge 1/2 ton pickup but it wasn't right either.

Any other thoughts as to what they came off of? I got them from a wrecking yard a number of years ago and they weren't on a car. They said to use parts from early/mid 70's A body. That seems to have worked for the brakes but the inner bearing is becoming a problem.

Any thoughts?

Spindles are master power re-pops! Probably can get the bearings from them.

Neither the inner bearings for 73-76 or 71-72 A-body fit. They were both too small. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by master power re-pops.

Master power sells spindles for thier Slider type break system and bigger 11 3/4 rotors for an e-body and they sell the bearings to go with em.

Success, sort of. After all the hassle and different bearings, the original bearings we started with were correct. Yay! I believe the problem was actually when the shop installed the inner bearing race, it looks like they didn't seat it all the way into the rotor.  :pullinghair:

Fortunately they are very nice there and have very good service so I expect they'll take care of it when I bring the rotors back in. We'll see a bit later this morning.
