Anyone Running a 285/40/17 in back
« on: April 12, 2012 - 09:23:15 PM »
Is anyone running a 285/40/17 on the rear of their Challenger?  My 275's are weather checked - Not sure why - but they are getting replaced.  In looking I've got more than 5/8" each side spring and molding to fit the 285's.  The reason I'm asking is that I see that Nitto makes a 285/40/17 which has a nicer 4 1/2" side wall height and comes in at 26.00 inches tall.  My Challenger has the stock rear width and stock spring locations.

Thanks -

I am, but my car has a B-body rear, which gives me an extra inch of BS over a E-body. I tried a 5 1/4 BS first, which left me with a half inch to the lip (unrolled). I switched to a 5 3/4in BS (both on a 10 inch rim) and it gave me the clearance I was looking for at the outer lip. _However, my BS is so tight I will HAVE to run a 1 inch relocation kit from Doctor Diff to ensure no leaf spring rubbing.

Every 10mm of tire width is approx 1/3"... so if you've got 5/8 on each side, from tire to fender lip and from tire to springs, you should be fine going from 275 to 285.

I pulled the trigger on the 285's - I figured the .393 inches / 2 or approx .200" inches per side would not kill me and I get the tire height that I'm looking for.  I'll post them up when they are mounted.  Thanks -
