Gran Coupe overhead console?
« on: June 26, 2012 - 09:40:56 PM »
Can anyone either tell me or show me what the clips look like that hold the overhead console to the headliner? I see the four tabs on the back of my console but what do they hook into? I've given up trying to find a repro headliner board so I took standard headliner and glued the fabric to it and installed the headliner. It came out really nice.

Standard headliners don't use a board... got a picture?

Its been too long since I put my car together but if I remember right, it screws in behind both "light" areas......

It is a metal clip with a 10-32 screw, I believe. It snaps into the metal tab on the board.

AH HA, now I see what it looks like. I did check out that place that sells the correct headliner. It looks nice but a little pricey. If I were doing a proper restoration I would have to go with it. As it is I found some fabric at the fabric store that looks and feels almost exactly like the original covering on my overhead console. So for about 50 bucks and 3 yards I did the whole job. Unless you were a vary educated MOPAR guy you would never know. I'll come up with a way to hold the front part of the console since the rear is held with the two screws thru the light bezel. When it's done I'll post some pics.

I have done this on my Barracuda -70 with bows and vinyl headliner. It sports one of my reproduction overhead console panels. Have still to connect the control lamps. No drilling och cutting required.
