the stock 14" ralley wheel is only 5.5" wide , the tire mfg should have a recommended rim width but if the tire is a bit wide the edges of tire will not wear down evenly but you should still be OK .

On my stock 14" Magnums, not sure if they are 5.5" or 6" wide, when I went to National Tire and Battery, I think I was told the widest you can SAFELY mount was a 235/60-14.  He looked it up in a book he had.  Can you do it?  Sure.  Should you do it?  Up to you.  If the rim isn't wide enough, the center will bulge and as Chryco mentioned you won't get even tire wear.

how wide is the stock 'wide' 14"?

its got 205/70r14's on all 4 right now-almost brand new. but one bulged out and blew :banghead: so i was going to get two new ones, wider and put them on the back. i can always get the wider 14's and put even wider tires on them and put them on the rear. or better yet get the 15" wheels just for the back?

I've been riding a set of 4 245/60 R 14s on 5.5" rallies for 3000 miles -no problems although the width is on the edge...

I used to run 235 60 14s on 5.5 rims all the time. Not sure how big the width jump is to 245s.
