power brake booster rod adjustment question
« on: June 16, 2012 - 03:55:54 AM »
I replaced my master cylinder and booster recently.  And now the pedal seems to be too stiff.  It takes more effort to get the brakes to stop, almost as if you did not have power assisted brakes.  I'm thinking that I may need to adjust the rod.  The directions that came with the booster said to shorten the rod if it's too stiff and too lengthen it if the pedal has too much travel.

I think my brakes are at the verge of dragging, especially with the stiff pedal.  I know that my rear drivers drum gets hot after a short drive.  The 3 other wheels/brakes are fine.  I pulled the rear drum and loosened the star adjuster only to have it heat up again.

So, do I need to shorten the rod, and if so, how many turns do I back it out?  2...3 or more turns??  Ideas are needed.

I have been messing around with a brake problem kind of like this one.  Interested...

I can't remember where I read this and correct me if I am wrong people but ....your looking for at least .060-.080 clearance between the piston/rod end and the end of the master's bore.

Shorten the rod a full turn or so , it should touch barely in the back of the master , did you replace springs on the brake shoes , the springs may not have enough pressure to overcome the the residual pressure valve in the master cylinder .
Maybe the booster is not repaired properly , new doesn't = right
