Ok I need some advice on what to do I bought a 360 for $300.00 hoping for a deal turns out there was too much wrong with the motor so now I have a 360 block bored .030 over,with an aluminum intake sitting at the mach shop and not much else.The crank/cam are no good 3 pistons are bad as well. The heads had cracks which were repaired and the builder advised against reusing them. This engine didn`t cost much so thats a good thing. I'm thinking of going with a stroker kit from rpmmachine so adding up the cost for parts say around $1500.00 plus cost of labor and the money for a set of heads this could very easily hit $4K when all is said and done which is more than I want to spend at this time.
My other option is a 340 craigslist motor near me for $2200. Supposedly this motor has 5- 10000 miles on it and has been out of a car and stored since 93. I think he said it was bored .030 but ad says .060 so who knows. The photos of the motor look good but a rattle can of orange paint can make anything look good.
The seller says motor is from 1970 if I get the #`s off it could I be able to tell what this motor came out of originally? If this motor is all its said to be I can have it in a lot quicker than the 360 where time seems to stand still at that machine shop.
