Interesting customer yesterday. UFC fighter
« on: June 14, 2012 - 08:38:51 AM »
I have a small business repairing lawn and snowblowing equipment and yesterday I went to a call and this HUGE dude opens his door! I was thinking holy cow this guy is massive! Turns out he is a retired UFC fighter.
Gary Goodridge.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Goodridge

He turns out to be a really great guy! So not what I expected! He is busy on his cell phone talking to Bill Goldberg.  He asks if I want to talk/text him? LOL I said naw  just tell him the guy fixing his lawnmower is into Mopar's and has a 70 Challenger. Bill's reply...."I'm jealous"  :roflsmiley:  Ya right I said! I'm " jealous" of HIS cars!

That's great. I remember watching his fights. What does he do now? It's kind of a shame how little those guys get paid compared to other sports.

I don't know what he does now? I didn't ask.  He must have gotten a bad injury as he is ( in his own words) brain damaged. I assume he took too many blows to the head?  His memory is impaired . Sure seems like a great guy though! Not what I expected when I first saw him! He seemed more humble than most and seemed to go out of his way to not seem intimidating.

It's cool to meet those guys

They have some good stories.

I happen to like to fight.

Believe it or not, it's actually quite exciting to get punched in the face.  Really gets the adrenaline pumping!

Very cool, Brad!   Must've been neat to meet him.

To bad about the brain damage stuff.  Suffered that to make a buck and entertain some people.  :-[

I guess that is my issue with it , Boxing & UFC are the only "sports" I can think of where the goal is to injure someone , too bad about the permanent Brain Damage , sounds like a decent guy to meet  :2thumbs:

Very cool Brad! I'm not into the fighting scene stuff, but worked with a guy a couple of trips ago that used to do it. They have more guts than me! It's sad to see like Mohammed Ali, though. it takes its toll, for sure. Cool tidbit about Goldberg as well. I did get to see Andre The Giant in action once down in Houston. That was one GOLIATH of a man!  Say what you want about "wrestling" being staged or what ever, I would not have stepped in the ring with him under any circumstances! lol. I know that the Ultimate guys are even fiercer, but then they aren't all 7 foot tall with fingers the size of hotdogs, either. Not my thing, but my hat is off to them. Cool story!

Man, I haven't heard that name in a alooooong time!  Used to watch him and all the old timers way back when.  Chief J Strongbow, Tony Garia, Ivan Putski.  The UFC guys look so proportional it's difficult to see how big they are unless you see them in person.  Andre the Giant, you could tell the guy was massive!
