I have a 71 Cuda 340 dash vin plate which was on the thrashed pad in my 73.
I had a good spare that came with my Challenger so I tossed that into the Cuda. It now sports a 72 Challenger dash vin.......

Also may be hard tp prove who actually did the tag swap.It would suck for current owner if he had no knowledge of the vin swap and just had a $50,000 car confiscated!I guess theat`s why they say-buyer beware.

This is the part that just kills me about these stories.  Why should the innocent guy who put out legal tender loose his money?   The original owner likely got paid for the theft by the insurance company (unless he was foolishly uninsured), so in reality it is the insurance company who took the loss.

I would think the guy that bought the car should be able to keep it and the insurance company would then have the right to take legal action against the guy who defrauded them (stole the car).

I doubt it was stolen.  it seems like it was more of finding a donor 318 car, and swapping the VIN and dataplate that were purchased on e-bay.

Good job Barry!
It's sad what some will do for a buck and even sadder that most likely an innocent person will suffer because of the fraud committed by another party! I hope the real perp does some time in the slammer!  :villagers:
