At show deals, what's the best bang for the buck?
« on: May 04, 2012 - 10:06:49 AM »

Hey guys, it's likely been 10 years since I last attended.  Outside of searching for oem parts, what deals are good for cash on hand?

example; If I show up with my old interior, could I get legendary to maybe install new covers for free with purchase of a set?

Or if I show up with old dash pad can I get a better on-the-spot price for a new unit?

I still need AMD sheetmetal.. maybe I should hold off till show?

Shipping cost aside, where can I go further at the show.

Any input/advise from past experience is appreciated.    thx!

As a general concept, more and more dealers are foregoing bringing huge amounts of stock to the show. Instead, they're taking orders there and offering other incentives, commonly free shipping. This isn't to say that no one brings stock, mind you, but there are many who don't.

I go for bumpers and heavy stuff but as said, you will find that they don't bring as much as they used to. If you need a bunch of repop stuff, start looking there and then order what you dont find.

Biggest thing is you save the shipping, and it's all right there. All those little clips and "do dads" that you don't think of till your assembling etc.... Dash pads require a core so you save 2X with shipping , as you don't have to pay to first ship the core . As Wally426ci said great time to get the heavy and/or bulky things that are expencive to ship.
Best part of the show for me is hanging out with other CC.com members!  :2thumbs:

My advice, if you are dealing with commercial vendors you know you want to buy from, is to have a deal in place before hand. Tell them you will be showing up with a core dashpad, or seats needing recovered. That way they can have your new dashpad on hand, or seat covers. Once upon a time Legendary had people installing seat covers on site, but that's a thing of the past.

AMD has a truck full  of all the sheet metal you would need, you can save a lot on shipping there.  Also, if you need bumpers bring your core, you can pick up new ones.  As high as shipping is these days anything that you can pick up will save you money.

Note that AMD can run out of this part or that part.  I bought two floor pans during my first-time vending two years ago.  I got the last of ones.  Several guys came up to ask if they were for sale.  So look to get some of your repop's early on. :2cents:
