Media blast or Dip

Hi guys, I am looking for your thoughts on the following. I currently have my car (completely stripped) at a soda blast place who will soda blast the paint and sand blast the underside for $850.00. I understand that after that the car will have to be washed to remove the residue (that I have been told will void some paint mfg warranty) left by the soda. Then have the car primered to protect the metal and then repair the rust on the body. All of this being labor intensive.

Or I have talked with a company in Jackson, MS. that will dip the car removing the paint and rust and then E-coat it for $4200.00. I would still need to have the body repairs done but this will completely clean the car no one would be able to get to and then seal the body in E-coat.

Looking for your thoughts on this matter.

I had my car "media" blasted.  Not sure exactly what they used but it has not effected the body work or primer sticking to it as the shop spryed the entire inside and outside of the shell, fenders, etc with "etch" primer before I took it home.  The only issue with "media" blasting is that the stuff gets in every nook and cranny and is constantly falling out of it's hiding places every time you do body work or hammer on the car.  Not a big deal, just a bit of a nuisance. By now I think we've gotten rid of about 95% of it.  For the difference in price I'd go with the "media" blasting.

this is the very reason not to dip your car,,it will eat some good metal just to remove everything ,,and can eat up alot of good metal depending on how long they dip it and who is in charge of it and they will not guarantee you can save it after its dipped and stripped ,,   and it will drip out of every nook and cranny after you paint,,and ruin the paint job,,get it sealed in e coat but do not dip to remove the rust

I had my 72 Barracuda dipped at Redi-Strip in Tempe AZ. Cost for the body, doors, hood,front fenders was $1100.00 It removed all the rust, undercoating everything down to bare metal. Reveal some rust issues that I had not seen before. I had it dipped about  5 years ago I sprayed a etch primer on it when I got it home.  It is ready for paint now. The trunk , engine compartment , interior underneath have all been painted for a year.
 I would do it again.

i had my car soda blasted and i loved it. soda blasting will not take the major rust off but will some on surface rust. to clean the car you wanna use this product called marine cleaner from por-15 and after that use the prep and ready por-15 pior to primer.

I'm curious as well....

I called a couple of places and they quoted around $600-700 for media blast exterior (depending on mud).  I can easily strip the paint off with a DA and some 80 grit, but that would take me a few weeks...which is fine too, but I wonder if the cost of materials would catch up or over come the cost of blasting?

This said, even after a media blasting I would still end up DA'ing the panels and what not anyways...so I don't think there is any reward other than saving time....

I should be able to strip a panel in about 30 minutes with a DA, if it takes me longer, it probably needs to be replaced...

Hi guys thank you for the responses. I have decided to have the car dipped and e-coated. This way I know every part of the car gets touched. As for seeping after dipping I am at least 2 years away from paint which should be pleanty of time for any seepage to occur (I would think).
