Fuel gauge
« on: February 23, 2005 - 07:33:03 PM »
The rallye gauges in my challenger work fine except for the fuel gauge. It says I have half a tank of gas no matter what is in the tank. It seems to fluctuate but doesn't go up or down. Would this be the sending unit in the tank ot the gauge itself? Any help would be appreciated. Dave

probably not the answer you were looking for but it maybe the car. Try replacing it with a KIA and see if that corrects the problem.

crawl under the car, pull off the wire to the sending unit in the tank, and ground the conductor (a jumper wire to the frame in a spot that you can see shiny metal, you will probably need to scape it to make a good connection, or just run a piece of wire from the sending unit lead at the tank to battery negative) and check the gage...it should go to full. if it does, the gage is good and the sending unit is bad. If it stays at 1/2 tank, the gage is stuck. also, amke sure the jumper strap between the fuel line and the sending unit is there and making a good connection.

 :iagree:

Also unplugging the sending unit should cause the guage to go to empty.
