Best Cam and exhaust set up for my 440
« on: July 03, 2012 - 03:39:55 PM »
Hi all,

Hopefully this is not too generic of questioning, but I have 5.

Here is my set up: 70 440 4 spd Challenger R/T.
71 stock six pack short block.
Edelbrock 84cc RPM heads.
509 Cam.
Stock manifolds and exhaust.

Q1.  I am thinking of changing cams to: Voodoo 60303 or 60304, or comp 274h. Which do you recommend and why?

Q2. Considering TTI headers and Dougs.  TTI says 1 7/8, but they also make a 2". Dougs are also 2"
What should I do?

Q3. 2 1/2" exhaust or 3"  (I am going h-pipe cause I don't like the sound of x)

Q4. Any nice exhaust tips in comparison to TTI for Challenger?  TTi's don't have the splitter baffle, and they are expensive!

Q5. Dynomax Superturbos, or Ultraflow?

Q6. Also, I am at High Altitude, 6000'.  What affect does this have on Cam selection, Header Tube size, and exhaust size?

This is primarilay a street car.   I like constant torque for driving on the street. I don't really like my 509 cam because it seems a bit sluggish for normal driving, like the power is either on or off by the time I step well on the gas.  Then I think it is limited on the high end by my manifolds and stock exhaust.  ...or that's how it seems anyway.  I don't really like a sluggish car where I have to go full throttle to get going if that makes any sense..

I figure  this might sway your opinions one way or another.

Thanks!

less over lap in the cam will help build compression at high altitude other than that it is just tuning
