Used Fenders or AMD
« on: June 24, 2012 - 04:12:42 PM »
Hi Guys,

I am in need of both LF and RF fenders for my 70 Challenger to replace the Fiberglass one that were on the car. My question is this. Should take time and look for a good set of OE fenders of go ahead and buy the repops from AMD?

no question in my mind 40 year old fenders will take more work & have more rust than new

Doesn't matter if you use AMD or used 40 year fenders, they will ALL need some work.  I'm with Neil on this one, go with new AMD.  UNLESS you have a big dollar six pack or Hemi car then it might be nice to spend the money it takes to buy NOS or repair some old originals.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Yes I agree I have some fenders off the car, rust dents, so I spent the money on AMD fenders and yes they will need a bit of work  in areas like the door gap and fender edge and they will need to be blocked out ,

but compared to repairing rust and pulling dents and hope that there  is no rust hiding somewhere to come back to haunt you in 3 to 5 years, new fenders is the way to go, unless as stated you have a rare car.

unfortunately  for me I  have replaced everything except the roof and floor and doors, the rest is all new sheet metal so I cant call it vintage Detroit iron any more , I guess it is now called fine Taiwan steel  :bananasmi :burnout:
