Drive shaft orientation
« on: November 20, 2012 - 02:44:33 PM »
Am about to get my driveshaft shortened. When i looked at my friends in his 70 383/727, the stepped down section of the drive shaft was at the diff end of the shaft. On mine , 318/904, the step down is at the trans end. Is there a right and wrong way ? I have seen a pic of Burder's driveshaft (pg 15 resto) and his has the step at the trans end. I have to shorten mine by about 3 1/2 inchs. If we took this out of the trans end we would nearly lose the narrow stepped section.

The stepped section is toward the rear.  That's now mine is...step back at the rear end.
