Hey gang, im brand new to this site, but come from across the way from Charger.com boards. I'm interested to know more about the Barracudas....but anyway...on to paint stripping. I've nearly finished removing the paint from my Charger...3 primer layers, and 3 paint layers...pretty thick amount to strip by hand, let me tell you.
I use the "Aircraft Stripper" available at most aotomotive stores. Use a 3" paint brush to apply it to the surface in nice heavy coats, go in one direction only, as this stuff has a formulated anti-evaporation additive in it that gets all screwed up if you brush back over it. Do it on a warm day, but avoid doing it in direct sunlight as it will boil REALLY FAST. If you strip indoors, make sure you got ventilation. Wear gloves...it can remove your skin too! After it sits a little while...it will begin to bubble or liquify, or both. You're good to go at this point....grab a 2" metal putty knife and start scraping! Makes a mess, but does a great job overall. I reccomend a D.A. with fine grit for your "clean-up sanding". Just to remove the last traces of primer, or whatever. Also, this stuff will soften bondo, so if you want to save yourself bodywork, avoid heavy use where filler is present. Hope this helped! I'm off to check out the members rides and see some cool Cuda's! Later goys!
