best 3rd member vendor
« on: July 16, 2012 - 01:01:36 PM »
Soon I will be removing the rear end (and springs) out of my 70 Cuda.  Today, I am starting my research process.  I want to replace the center section with a new unit.  It seems like Dr. Diff is a CC.com favorite.  Is this the vendor of choice when it comes to differentials?  How about Randy's Ring & Pinion, West Coast Differentials or Just Differentials?  Are they any good when it comes to price and quality?

Was hoping to get positive (and negative if any)  feedback on these companies as I've never dealt with any of them before.  Thank you for any and all input.

Mike

If you're going to pay someone to build you a custom rear end or just do a rebuild, I think Dr. Diff would be your best bet. I've had some help (technical advice) from Cass (Eslick?) on a rebuild I did, but never made a purchase from him, but know he is top notch & nice enough to help a not-so-smart backyard mechanic out. And he knows his stuff when it comes to rear ends. I've bought parts from Randy's and had no problems. DTS (Drivetrain Specialists) also builds a good product, but I think Dr Diff. would be the best bang for your buck.  :money:

I get a discount at Randy's through my work and Dr Diff was still really competitive.  I think their pricing was within $10 for a locking diff, R&P, bearing kit, crush sleeve eliminator...etc.  So I went with Dr Diff.  I set the R&P up myself and he was very helpful with it along the way.  Really good customer service too.
+1 for Dr Diff,  but I don't have any experience with the others.

I just changed my 73 Charger from open to limited slip and I bought from Cass. He sold me everything I needed and told me what I needed to do and his price was very competitive, but the best thing is he shipped out the locker the same day I called and I called at 2pm central time.
