Newbie up in Vermont

Hi everyone,
I'm a new member and hard to tell from my screen name, my name is Perry.
I own a '70 Challenger. Not much to look at yet but it is mine. Started out with a 318/904 and the 7 and 1/4 rear end. Oddly enough that was posi. It was a rusted out hulk which I bought from a guy that owned a army surplus store. Crawled over barb wire to see it but that's a whole nother story. Since then I have put in a 440/727 and dropped a 8 3/4 with 3:90's in it.
I've gained a lot from lurking on this site so I thought I would join and become part of the community.

Worthless without pic's...............true enough.

I'll get some better pic's up when I get to my home computer. Here's an iphone pic. It's cloned out pretty well and I make no misrepresentations about it's true anemic nature. I tried to do everything to bring it up to R/T spec and I think I did pretty good. Paint is still ahead of me. I had to replace tons of sheet metal. I had no experience at that. So off to Lowe's to buy a mig. Don't laugh but I learned to weld by watching youtube videos and practicing on scrap sheet metal. You know how that goes, huge gobs of no penetration separated by holes burnt through the metal. At least the warpage helped hide em. But eventually, I got good enough to take the welder to the car and replacement panels.

Here's a vid of me racing at Lebanon Valley in NY. My first time at the track and my reaction time would allow you to read a page out of a book before I hit the gas. I turned 14.5 which isn't that bad considering I bought the engine on ebay for $300 and dropped it in. I don't have tons of money so I am making due and upgrading when possible. I could feel the 235 horsepower coursing through the steering wheel. With the 8.2 compression I can fill the tank with diet soda and still not ping. At least I got to grease some ricers and isn't that all that really matters.

You scored a 440 for $300!   :faint:  Sweet!   :thumbsup:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I know, crazy isn't it. It shows there is still hope for the little guy on a budget. I found the engine on ebay and out of all the places in the US it could have been it was about 2 blocks away from my house. It was in a '78 4wd and I paid some friends 100 bones to yank it and bring it to my house. So actually it was $400, delivered. Ha.
It looked clean on the inside so I put in a new timing chain and oil pump. Scraped all the crud off, painted it and haven't looked back.

It's a little long in the tooth but doesn't knock or smoke. This way I can drive the car around until I can build a proper engine. It's the only way I can do it on my budget. Tranny was $125 from a pick and pull and about $400 for the 8 3/4 rear end, axle to axle with a 3:91 sure grip.
