1970 Challenger - K-Frame, Motor Mount Issue..
« on: August 01, 2012 - 07:06:43 PM »
Hey all ...

I have a very intersting thing goin on ...

On the DVR side, the bolt hole for the motor mount bolt in slightly elongated.
I am guessing this is to aid in alignment when installing the engine, to give soem "play" for mounting.
Here is what is going on..

I noticed that when I would (in 1st low) slam the gas, I would hear a loud bang and noticed the shaker bubble sharply roll over hard to the thud.
I figured maybe a bad motor mount.
Turned out that the engine was lifting the motor mount up until the bolt would hit the top of the elongated slot/hole.

Now this does not happen when just in 3/drive, must not be as much torgue or something, just in 1st.
I tighted the hell out of the bolt, worked okay for alittle bit and then the same thing started again.

How in the hell can I fix this short otf chaining the damn thing down??????
Could I have a bad bolt?

really confused on this.

Humm that shouldn't be happening as I'm sure you know. Are you sure the mount isen't seperated?
Maybe you should invest in one of these? I have one in mine and it works great!

the mount is not seperated.
I had a buddy do a power brake while I watched, I actually saw the whole mount pull up, bolt and all.

The PASS side has a regular old hole.  It is just big enough to get the bolt through.
Wish the DVR was the same.

Maybe the motor mount is shot under side where I can't see.

Thanks for input.

:iagree:

Torque strap indeed. I took Brads advice on this strap - works great, fits great. The car also doesn't twist as much when leaving the line.

Try putting a jack and a 2x4 under the side of the oil pan and jack up to see what happens?  You should be able to quickly see if the mount is bad?
