Chassis guys..got some questions
« on: August 06, 2012 - 12:29:27 AM »
I have a Dana 60 I'm going to get from dr diff and I'm ordering it without spring perches..I have a ride tech kit to install in the car..my question is can some explain to me how I can mock up the rear so I can get the upper and lower brackets in the right spot..would you just square the rear up and weld the lower brackets? If so can I set the the pinion angle on the rear close with out the motor and trans? Here is a pic of the suspension I'm installing..also a pic of the weld on bracket I'm installing on the new rear,it does away with the lower spring perches..

I would block the chassis at the ride height you want plus 12"( or what ever your jack stands are) use shims under the jack stands.  Do the same with the rear end .  Then assemble everything , set the pinion angle and tach weld , then triple check your dimensions again. I would then lift the rear end up and down and check for binds in the suspension. Angled 4 links are fussy with the geometry. An 1/8" makes a difference.
Disassemble then finish weld out of the car. Don't be in a hurry and be sure of your measurements?

I would be concerned about warping the housing welding on the brackets. I've done a few 9" Fords and always had to straighten the housing after welding? I would guess when they are making a rear end new  the axle bearing ends get welded on last with a fixture so it gets it straight?

I talk to ride tech and mike told me I shouldn't have a issue..but I'll ask cass (dr diff)..I think I found a chassis shop..that can fit me in and get all my welding stuff done..I think I could do it myself, but I'm not really not comfortable with welding chassis stuff..I'm a paint and body kind of guy..
