Help- how would you deal with this?
« on: August 13, 2012 - 09:24:04 AM »
I purchased a part (air fuel meter) from a member of another site.

I recived the part in mid June and all seemed to be fine, there was no apparedn damage to the box or the parts.

Fast forward to yesterday, and I FINALY had time to install the meter.

I get the O2 sensor installed and the display all wired up, and nothing..no power to the unit. :stomp:

I have verified that there is power (just under 12 volts) geting to the the plug at the display unit, but it will not power up.

So, would you go back to the seller and ask him to make it right (I am hoping it was damaged in shippment)...or has too much time elapsed.

Thanks,

Jason

even if it was damaged in shipment , after 2 months its been to long to hold the shipper to any responsibly , and you can email the seller and explain things and see if there is anything he can do but I wouldn't get to upset if he cant , all you can do is ask at this point .   :2cents:

:iagree: Was there any type of warranty? I've been bad about ordering/buying stuff & throwing it on the shelf before examing it. I bought a transmission jack (new) & put it on the shelf and didn't examine it until months later when I took it off the shelf to use it. There was a problem with it, but I had no recourse as I had purchased it some 6 months earlier. Like 72rt said, it wouldn't hurt to ask. I hope you can get it fixed.  :2thumbs:

When we were building engines we had a policy about standing behind the product , it had nothing to do with time , , often an engine would sit for a year or more before it was installed in a car , if we were responsible we fixed it if not well ... we would make it right but not at our cost .
One person we built an engine for had a lobe go flat on the cam , did he call us ... nope , I would have caught it on the valve lash reset , no instead he tried to blow the engine up & blame us for it LOL .
I would contact the seller , he may be happy to make it right for you .

Chryco, I agree that your policy is a good one, especially for a business looking to maintain a good reputations. But in this case i believe the seller is just a regular person and not a vendor (Correct?)

The problem being here is that the OP did wait a few months before testing the item.  Again I am assuming this is a used part from another member.  I would send the guy an email and explain the situation and hope for the best.  But for all the other guy knows is the OP kicked it around his garage a few times before installing and now it's broke.

I undertand the concern of both parties and would not fault either one of them for any outcome.

Thansk guys.

I have sent an email to the sellor we will see what he says.

Yes it was a used part, no I did not kick it around the garage for two months  :eek4:.

The implied warranty was that I was buying a working part.  Yes I shoull have checked it when I recived it, but it appeared to be in good shape, well packaged and no damage to the box.

All I can do is wait and see now.

thanks for the input guys.

I emailed the seller and we worked it out.

Turns out the unit, which uses the cigar lighter for power, was wired wrong.  I switched the two wires in the cigar lighter adapter and it powered right up.

WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!  Maybe now I can finaly tune out my stinky idle, or at least figure out if it is rich or lean.

This is a good example why people should not knee-jerk into throwing a fuss.

In this case, it sounds like two reasonable people set down and worked things out.

Good for you both.
