I installed a vacuum gauge in the clock delete, what do ya think?
« on: September 06, 2012 - 09:16:36 PM »
I found this VDO gauge at a local speed shop. It had been sitting around for years. The packaging was all yellowed even! LOL Cost me $10. While I was at it I swapped out the fuel gauge as a previous owner had a 71-74 fuel gauge .
The only thing I notice is the needle is red and all the stock gauges have orange needles. Other than that I thought it matched pretty good?

Looks cool, Brad. Someone, maybe Redline, was selling the correct orange paint so you could match the needle  :grinyes:

   Ya I remember seeing that too. The problem is the VDO gauge has a sealed glass front so you can't "easily" get to the needle.

Looks good  :2thumbs:

Interesting that it is laid out the opposite way most of the other gauges are.  low vac is right, high is left as opposed to fuel, speed, temp where low is left and high is right.

Ya your right? I'm guessing when running it will be pointing close to straight up?

Not likely with that stroker and it's cam Brad. But hey, who'd rather have vacumn than a nice lumpy idle? Not me. Besides, didn't you put one of those hydra-boosts on your car?

Ya I haven't fired it yet so I don't know what to expect? I have a hydroboost off a chevy astro van and started machining a firewall plate for it. That's as far as I got. I'll finish it over the winter I guess? Just need the plumbing hoses.

I think it looks pretty good.  I'd probably repaint the rest of the needles to match the vacuum gauge though.  I really like the clean look of it instead of just bolting a gauge to the dash or column.

So do I, but I don't have enough delete holes for everything I want to add  :grinno:

I made a bracket that installs 2 or 3 gauges just below the air vent levers. I have oil pressure, water temp, and then air/fuel ratio gauge.

Looks great, I could go either way but painting them red would really stand out!

I can't wait to put the VDO tach in my delete section.
