Took the "tank" to the track
« on: November 19, 2012 - 12:09:07 AM »
First time testing at the strip, was thinking of going for the last month or so but was too busy or it was too cold or something. Strip was to close last weekend but since the weather is so "nice", 55 degrees high temp, they (Milan) decided to open for one more weekend.

45 miles one way, with 3.91's and no OD. Surprising it got decent mpg at 65 mph, I usually never go that slow since traffic moves 75 or so but it was so far and its deer season right now-I seen a few road kill each way, thought it be best to go a little slower....I swear some jerks stay on your tail long enough just to see if you are drunk for going so slow before they pass you by, lol

The weight scale was not working-ice under it they said, be open in May,  my guess is its 3,900-4,000 lbs..reg. says 3750 but came with alum. bumpers and now has steel 78 Magnum bumper in front and the optional steel bumper in back and around 120 lbs in stereo woofers, speakers and amps-maybe more ? Had 3/4 of a tank of fuel-tank holds 21 gallons-again I thought it burn more gas getting there then it did. Came with A/C and its all gone-everything, had a 318 when new

Motor is a 340 with KB 243 hyper's and MP cast iron heads-based on the 308 heads but no smog holes and 2.02 intake valves. Factory 1970 style exhaust manifolds, a 904 trans with a TCI 10 inch converter and a 8 1/4 inch rear with those 3.91 gears. Have HD police steel rims and 215 /70/15 tires all around. Has a Edelbrock D66 dual quad intake with Carter 500 carbs, both secondary air doors removed. Trans shifts good but 2nd to 3rd is weak-can slip a tad at wot so I shift the 2-3 at part throttle and re-floored it. Shift at 6,300 rpm 1--2 and around 6,200 rpm 2--3

Got about 5,000 miles on a 2 year old engine...always run 20w-50 motor oil-NSL

Heres my time slip

Reaction .904 (I know,lol)
60 ft 2.313
330 ft 6.06
1/8 et 9.1573
1/8 mph 79.07
1000 ft 11.86
1000 mph 89.93
1/4 mile et 14.16
1/4 mph 98.24

Ran 6 times, slowest mph was 96. 18 at 14.46, that is when I tried the hardest to go quick by flooring very fast. Wheel spin was a bit of a problem, I heard them squeal every time. On concrete roads I have little traction problems-track was asphalt. Most runs were around 97.60's..never could break in to the 13's but did no tuning at the track-its going in for winter storage soon
