Opinion on 340 headers
« on: September 17, 2012 - 07:23:09 PM »
I have a 73 cuda 340 and I wanted to put some headers on it and wanted to opinion and advice from those who have put them on before. I would like shorty headers but I’m fine with either. These are the only ones I’ve found and liked

Cannot speak for doug`s brand. but I did the tti`s on my 70 with small block and they fit perfect and do not hang low( speed bump proof). On the other hand me and my buddy just put coated headers from summit on his 73 challenger small block and the drivers header could double as a snow plow. this thing hangs freakin low!!!!!!  tti may cost a few extra bucks but worth it. Now the x-pipe they sell did not fit without weld modifications.
I will finish a project.I will finish a project. I will finish a project.

I have Doug's on a 70 Challenger with a 73 340 and a 73 Barracuda with a 318.  They fit great and do not hang low.
FWIW - A year ago, I sent back two sets of Super Comp for poor fit and welds.

I just put ceramic TTI's on my 71 Cuda 340 4-speed / power steering. I needed to remove the drivers side engine mount bolt and jack engine up a bit to get driver side header into place. On passengers side I couldn't get the header into place because of the front stud in the head which didn't allow me enough room so rather than take the stud out I just removed that engine mount bolt as well and jacked up engine on that side and it went right into place. Sounds like a bit of work but went pretty well.
Once they are on the look great.  :ylsuper:
Lots of ground clearance but they are pricey!! :money:

I have Doug's on my Challenger 318 with iron heads.  I love the way they fit.  I would buy another set if given the choice again.

When my Challenger had a small block, I had headers (don't remember the brand) where three of the four tubes on the driver's side went under the steering linkage. It didn't take long before they were flattened out! I would avoid that design.  :2cents:

I went with TTI's because of what I heard about them.  They fit PERFECT and still look great 4 years later.  They were expensive but well worth it.

I have the Doug's on my Challenger, easiest header installation I have ever done! I have a 340 with power steering and other than having to remove the starter I didn't have to unbolt anything or lift the engine. They just fit like a glove and have great ground clearance. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the market for headers.
