HELP!! New harnesses and no power
« on: September 11, 2012 - 10:30:30 PM »
I have replaced engine, Dash, Fwd and rear light harnesses, positive battery cable, and starter solenoid. I have the steering column out rebuilding it but used a new ignition switch to try and start the car. I have no power at all when I turn the ign switch on. Do I have to have the column in to get power? Am I missing any other harnesses? the car came with none so just guessing. I still need to get a NSS harness. Please help any input is greatly appreciated.

I still need to get a NSS harness.

Are you saying that the NSS is NOT connected, or, that it IS connected and you just need a replacement harness? I don't see how the car can start if the NSS is not part of the circuit.

Ok tried it again still no power. Could it just be I fried the relay when i  wired the relay wrong or maybe a bad fusible link? I can still crank the engine by jumping the relay or starter but checked for spark at the spark plug as i am cranking it over and nothing. no accessory power when I turn the ignition switch. Any Ideas? thanks for the input

Sounds like you have no hot lead for your electronic ignition. Trace it back and test your connections.

Otherwise, the good thing is that the starter relay is pretty cheap. Go to rockauto.com and pick one up.

Ok New NSS harness, new ignition switch, and a new starter relay again. I get an oil light when I turn the key on but when i try to start the car my winshield wipers move a little and get nothing else. no relay click or starter crank. when I turn the headlights on and try and turn key to start they do not dim out at all. any Ideas?? Everything is new so very confused.

Well it sounds like your wipers are getting power as soon as you turn over the ignition.

Something is not hooked up right, did you start from scratch or did you have a picture/diagram to help you reconnect all the connectors?

Ok After reading some other posts I found That my shifter linkage was out of adjustment. Now the engine does crank over but the battery I have is to weak to crank it fast enough so on to the next battery to try and get the engine to run. thanks for the help guys.
