EFI motor swap

Hey ya'll,

I'm looking at swapping in an EFI motor into my 71. It will be sometime in the future as I have a lot to do presently. On my list of motors I am really looking at the lt1 and ls1 motors as they are used in a lot of swaps and the cars they come in can be purchased for fairly cheap. I'm curious as to if there may be a better motor out there for a swap.

I'm also considering swapping the mated trans from whatever car I get into my Challenger, or just figuring out how to run efi with a non computer controlled auto. I'd suspect that process is a bit of a pain?

I would recommend to NOT put a chevy motor in your challenger, that is just sacrilegious!  I would get a wrecked ram pick up with a hemi and put that motor in it.  For the trans, use a 518 (46RH, out of 94-95 RAM and others).  It will cost a little more to get the him in but it is mopar and a HEMI.  Then sell the rest of the parts from the truck to cover your costs.  Plenty of threads on here on forabiesonly.com about the swap.
If you still want to put a chevy motor in, there might not be a lot of people who have done that (luckily) and you would probably be on your own.   People will be  :dunno: about that too... then  :villagers:  do the right thing, use the hemi.

For the trans, go to the trans section and read the A518 for novice guide, tell you all you need to know.

 Your choice but why stop there - might as well go with a Ford 9" rear. Give your head a shake but by all means build "your" car. Just my opinion and hey some folks might disagree with the direction my car has gone :).

That was originally the direction that I was planning on going. From my understanding at least on the 95 rams like I had, aftermarket parts are shoddy. I wasn't too impressed with the speed either. I've ridden in an LT1 Camaro and it is damn fast. What would it take to hop up a Ram motor?

if you got a newer 03+ hemi 5.7 hemi I think they have 345 HP stock which is probably about 75-100 more then an LT1, I will tell you the LS (98+ chevy) based motors are better and easier to get going because they are so popular. I have a 5.3 waiting for my Chevelle but I also have a 6.1 hemi for my barracuda. The 6.1 hemi I got for 1500 out of a running charger which was a great deal and I only paid $500 for my LS based motor. The LS motors are a better built engine and will handle lots of horsepower in stock trim, mine will get a 68MM turbo and push 9 LBS of boost and when it pops I will get another short block cheap.
with all that being said dont put a chevy motor in your car.
