What color are you starting with and trying to end up with ?  It'd be hard to go from black to light blue.

To just darken up faded black belts, I just clean them really well and hit them with SEM rattle can vinyl dye.  Sounds chincy but works great

n9671x2 do you have anyproblems with the dye coming off on to like your shirts or anything??? Also. it wouldn't be to hard to go from Dark Blue to Black would it?? the belts are a real dark blue almost black enless you get it just right in the sunlight probably don't have to dye them i'd just feel better...thanks..

Have not had any problems with dye coming off on clothes.  So do you have original black belts that have just faded to the blue you are mentioning?  I agree with you though, alot of people don't do anything with the belts, and they can really detract from a nice new interior.

I've used a standard cloth type dye to freshen up a set of red belts..they came out nice and never bled on any clothes.

71- just go get the same dye as what you would need to do the t-shirt  TYE DYE's!!!

follow the directions exactly.

did the Deputy's- they where faded black and when done you swear they just came out of the factory.

Used the wifes big stainless steel pot- like the one to do corn on the cob!!!  take off the plactic parts- don't worry about the steel!

and the trick is to cold wash it like it says!!!!!!!

Well...i don't know if they faded to a blue (guessing so) or if they was just a dark blue..the int. is supposed to be blue and the front belts were a drk. blue but the rear seat belts were black...i'm guessing the fronts just faded...Also 71 Dep. that sounds like a good idea also..i'll try alittle of both lol...Dye the passenger side with Vinyl paint and the other with tye dye...lol thanks guys..

the color of the seats usually matches the color of the belts....white being the exception of course, they get the color of the carpet. I had a H6BW 70 cuda...thats a blue interior with blue carpet with white seats, white door panels, blue dash pad, blue console, blue steering wheel, white headliner, blue kickpanels, blue package shelf and blue belts. Pretty rare color combo interior.

71deputy - Thanks for the suggestion.. went out & bought some RIT black dye. First "cook" it for 30 min or so, then cold wash to prevent the bleeding. Great to hear it works well!!

btw - I went to your site.. love the pics and the "sleeper wheels"  :burnout: are the look I'd like to put on my 71.

REPORTING back!! I've dyed the front & back seat belts. The nylon.. looks blacker than factory. i could not be happier w/ how they came out. I used 2 boxes of RIT dye & put boiling water in a bucket w/ the belts.. covered the top & let soak over night. Then wash off in cold water several times..  :ack:
