Door glass guides
« on: October 18, 2012 - 06:37:10 AM »
Want to make sure I have the glass guides in the correct places and am I missing 2.
For each door I have 2 guides with rubber on them and are attached with allen key bolts, and 2 guides with fuzzy material.  Am pretty sure the rubber ones go on the outside and fuzzy ones on inside. Am I missing 2 fuzzy ones that also go on the outside ? Hope pics make more sense .
The door in the photo is off a 71. Passenger door is original 73.
Also , have a feeling there was a bracket to hole mirror wires ?
 Thanks, tony.

PS Do I attach the horizontal regulator channel to the glass  before insert the glass ? Only ask because I have read threads promoting both yes and no ?

Nothing goes in the outside holes in the door(pics1-3) except for what you have labeled "rubber guide".  There is a rubber bumper that goes in that location.  There are just two of the guides(per door) that have the fuzzy material on them.  There are also two(per door) metal "up stops" per door.  They attach to the inner door frame below the fuzzy guides.

1970 and maybe early 71's used an extra bracket to hold the mirror cables.  Other years did not.  My 73 had a metal clip on the outer door beam as well as two plastic clips to hold the cables.  I used the smaller holes in your fourth picture to attach the plastic clips.

Do not install the window fuzzies until the glass is installed.  Also, do not install the large rubber block at the bottom of the door until the fuzzies are installed.  The glass will drop lower into the door without that block inplace.  You'll need that extra room to get to the window fuzzy screws.

I kept the horizontal track attached to the door mechanism.  I just used the window crank to move the mechanism up and down so it aligned with the attachment points on the glass.

Your second and third pics show where the up stop brackets attach.  I found a pic of them here.

Thanks Burdar, I made an offer on one of those plus the other piece I needed he had up for sale too, plus seeing one of the up stops allowed me to find one in my parts stash that I got with the car.

Is the rubber bumper you are referring to similar to the window down stops that go in the bottom of door? I have some I can not figure out where they go. Also you said nothing goes in the holes on the outside of window but in another post - http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=63377.0 - Brad posted a pic showing another fuzzy covered guide located in the two holes in front of where the rubber guide goes. Do the Cudas not use this?

Hay cuda346pk,
Look at 1st photo, Where the  black circle is on the righthand side is where I have seen felt covered guides. It was on a 70 SE challenger. But then another friend with a 70 R/T  does not have them. Ones I saw were the same as in Brads post.
As for the rubber bumper, I have 1 small rubber block you can see in 3rd photo just to the right of the righthand circle. Might mean there is another one of these to go in further to the right.

That's one of the spots I am wondering about too, plus the spot in Brads pic showing the rear one. I have the holes for them but no brackets. I also do not have anywhere to mount the rubber tipped bracket you have in front of the circle in first photo.
I see the small rubber block and I have a rectangular slot for it but I think that may be smaller. Is it as large as the window down stop in the bottom of the door?

Did you see my post in the other thread?  I don't think the later years used any "fuzzy" brackets on the outside.  It was most likely deleted for cost savings.  1970 also used an extra 1/4 window guide that was later deleted.

Makes sense as it does not look like the holes in my door for the outside fuzzies have ever had a screw in them. Good, 4 less things to buy.
