OMG my seat tracks are trashed
« on: October 19, 2012 - 03:03:07 PM »
It was on this very web site a while back I posted up the question. "Will my seat tracks be OK if I alkaline dip them and have them powder coated" The consensus and my own thinking was "  :dunno: what could it hurt, Probably" Well let me give a definitive answer. It will destroy the bearings in the seat glides. I feel like an idiot. I have destroyed my original 70 Chally seat tracks.
Now for a new question. Has anybody tried the after market tracks? Any thoughts on fit and quality?
When I was younger I thought I was much smarter. :faint:

reproduction tracks are good, sold many for the B and E bodies.

there is 2 steel rollers and a couple small balls and nothing else in the tracks, taking them apart isnt an issue to do what you want with the coating

The bearings shouldn't be affected by the alkaline dip. Are you sure they don't just need to be relubricated?
If I cant fix it, it's broke

What happened I think is the powder coating got on to the bearings and I forced it a bit and some of the balls jumped out, half coated with the powder coating.

If you can find them, they just snap into place. Soak them in lacquer thinner to remove
the powder coating
