Managed to email the previous owner about my carb problem and here is the answer I received:

When you get on it the front or back carb. Will sometimes stick open and flood everything. If it happens when your moving-keep the engine running to help burn the excess fuel, if it happens and you shut off the engine then you’ll have to wait until it’s all dry before the engine will restart.

It's nice he mentions this AFTER you bought the car.   :eek7:

Ok, well now that it appears to be one of the outboard carbs that sticks open and floods everything, how do I fix it.
What does it mean that it sticks open? I don't know much about carbs but I've read something about needles not sitting properly to close flow of fuel....Is this a quick fix or do I have to get new carbs  :hyper:

You mentioned that the carbs were rebuilt last summer. Did you have them rebuilt or did the prior owner?
Sounds like they just need to be reinspected  or rebuilt agsin by someone that knows these carbs. Sounds like a sticky float
or needle/seat problem. But I wouldn't think that you would have to get new carbs.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Does anyone know this store?
http://www.tonysparts.com/carbsale2011.htm
The 3 carbs for a 440-6 pack is only 995$, still a lot of money but usually goes for closer to 1300$ everywhere else.
My carbs were rebuilt by a guy who has a very good reputation in Montreal with 6 packs. He obviously missed something but will it be better in the end to invest in new carbs... That is the question.

Depends where the problem is , if the new carbs are not set to run with your combo it may run exactly the same , , new carbs could solve the issue as wel , it depends what is wrong

Not to be contrarian, but IMHO, there's no way in hell that you passed 7 liters of fuel through the cylinders into the oil pan. The plugs would look like you'd been burning coal and it'd run so rich people would think you had a diesel in it. I think the earlier ideas were right and you've got a bad fuel pump. I had it happen to a 340 I had and it later ate the thrust bearing as it was a 4 speed. Try the KISS principle; change the pump, keep and eye on the exhaust/starting/running and oil levels and pressure very carefully and see if you haven't cured it.  :2cents:

The saga continues...
I changed the fuel pump with a stock one over the winter.
Went to the garage where they supposedly specialize in 440-6 again and said all was fine.
Drove home, oil stank of fuel again!
Went to a new garage, specialized in performance and muscle cars. There was 4 litres of fuel in my oil this time. They changed my fuel pump again! (and the oil of course)
Drove home, oil stan of fuel again!!!!! :hyper:
Towed my car again to this last garage, and finally! I think they found the reason!!!!!! Here is there email:

I think we found the cause of the fuel problem. The fuel return line going back to the tank and the tank vent line were mixed. So the line going into the breather on the passenger side valve cover was connected to where the return line would connect. So when you added fuel the return line was in the fuel and the pressure in the tank pushed it to the motor in through the breather. We took the pump off to check and there was no fuel behind it. So I put a clear inline filter in the hose going to the breather and we had raw fuel going in. Took a while to figure out the system
Luckily we have some old shop manuels. Your fuel tank has 3 fuel vent lines and a drain line plus feed line and a return line it's a kinda weird system. I have a photo I will show you so it will be easier to understand. We changed the oil I put some cheap oil from canadian tire I'll run it a while tomorrow  then dump the oil and put in the good stuff.  I started the car up and it ran great will drive it around to test it could be that as the fuel level increased in the oil the pcv was drawing in fuel vapors and causing the car to go rich(black smoke) just a theory will do some testing tomorrow. we should know for sure tomorrow I'll get in touch with you sometime tomorrow.

Update.
Finally that's what it was. A line from the fuel tank coming to the valve cover passenger side into a breather was bringing raw fuel into the engine.
Now runs well and no fuel in the oil!
But winter is coming here in Montreal :-(
It will soon be time to store the toy in the garage...
