I was getting a few boxes up the attic over the weekend and thought about digging through the old picture box to complete my thread here. Only found two and they are old (no digital camera back then and no amount of editing can make them better). So here it is, my 72 Challenger, 318 AT, AC, gold color car with a white vinyl top and like new interior. I know I had more pictures but this is all I could find. The car belonged to an old lady that passed and she willed it to her friend who sold it to me. It had about 42k miles on it. First week I got it, it was stopped at a red light and got hit from behind by a drunk driver in a Civic. Only the bumper was bent but the Civic was totalled.
Car was a bit rough due to neglect and parked close to the ocean. There were small rust spots all over the car where I later on removed (not a very good job). I was working at a full service gas station then (remember those) to help pay for the car and the mods. It did not pay good but I got access to the lift and learn a few from the mechanics when not busy and the boss is not around. Car ended up with a few goodies like a four barrel Holley, Weiland intake, M/T valve covers wit hthe long wing nuts, Hedman headers, dual exhaust and rear Monroe air shocks. It was not fast but my friends had Mopars from 6 cyl Swinger, a few other 318/340 E bodies and A bodies, a 68 or 69 440 Charger and the King was a 69 triple black 4spd HEMI Charger, so definitely not the slowest.
The pictures must had been taken after I removed the rust spots and primed it. Car was eventually painted the factory gold color, moldings replaced with some mag wheels at the back. I reluctanly sold the car around 1982 to help pay for school. Afterward, I swear my heart must dropped a beat everytime I see a Challenger on the road. So, it took me 30 years to get my hand on another first gen Challenger. I suppose it is better late than never.
