Pressure Plate

Looking for someone who knows more about this pressure plate I have.  I bought it a long time ago but it puzzles me about the sloppy welded weights on it.  Was this for a 360 motor?  I want to use it on my 440 and was thinking I might have to grind them off.  It is made by hays and is brand new 11" but older stock.  Any help would be appreciated. :clueless:

Never heard of balancing a motor with the weights on the pressure plate.  I'm not even sure if the bolt holes for the pressure are always clocked the same way in relation to the flywheel bolts.  Even then it can be bolted to the flywheel in more than one position.

Pressure plates are normally balanced themselves with plugs pressed in above the springs, like in the photo.

That's some ugly welding though, looks like it was done with a coat hanger.  What's the part number?

I agree , very weird , there is no clocking so the PP can be bolted on in 6 different positions making balancing useless unless the flywheel & PP are peened somehow , I would not use this PP even if you cut the welds off the metal has been compromised

Good points.  I'll have to look at the box for the part number.  I couldn't find one on the plate it's self.  Still have original instructions and warranty in the box.  Nothing there either to help.  I wonder if I could contact Hays about this one.

i can show you a pressure plate in about 100 pcs. that came apart @only 5500 rpms. and it was new. i still have both feet. lots of  BIG holes everywhere by gas pedal ect... broken bellhousing,broken trans mainshaft and case .. all junk ! :2cents:

Sent an email to the manufacturer and they responded that the welds are not factory.  They said it is usable but have the welds inspected by an experienced welder.  I guess to make sure they don't fly off.

generally the weld will hold , the metal beside the weld is where it will fail
