Question about fender Pentastar

Why did Chrysler only apply the Pentastar on one side?  Was it a cost saving measure?  Logically they apply it to the passenger side when parked at the curb in the US.  Did they ever sell right hand drive vehicles, and did they swap fender location of the Pentastar?   

There must be some history out there about it.

I figure it is/ was just an easy way to denote all vehicles as Chrysler products without being too obvious about it..... And Chrysler always was a little different than the others

The Pentastar logo was placed on the lower passenger-side fender of all Chrysler products, including non-US brands, from 1963 into the 1972 model year. It was placed on the passenger-side fender so it could be viewed by passers-by, a subtle method of getting the symbol ingrained in the public's mind: a nameplate has to be read, but a symbol is quickly recognizable without reading. Thus left-hand drive cars had the Pentastar on the right fender, while right-hand drive cars had it on the left. Starting in the 1980s, hood ornaments on Chrysler-brand vehicles used a gem-like version of the pentastar to signify the brand's upscale status.

I remember those gem hood ornaments.   Put one on my 77 diplomat in place of the chess piece one it had.

I've read where it was placed on the curb side, so that people walking down the sidewalk might see the car parked, but not know what make it was, would see the pentastar and associate it with a Chrysler product.

From what I have learned, it was a "signature". Let me explain: When a artist/painter draws something to put in a frame, he signs it. And where does he sign it? You got it, in the lower right corner...just like Chrysler did...the lower passenger, (right) fender. Iy is as simple as that!

This had been covered many times before and there have been articles in some of the Mopar mags. It was so that the cars could be identified from the curb.
