Phone Scams..
« on: October 29, 2012 - 01:24:17 PM »
Posting this so you all know to be suspicious and not give out any information over the phone or send anyone money...

So I just got a call at 9:40AM, it was a woman with a bit of a southern accent. My mother gave me the phone because her English isn't very good. So this lets call her scum  :) can't pronounce my mothers simple name because her education level isn't high enough. Scum tells me she needs to talk to my mother about a legal matter, I tell her that my mothers English isn't that good. I had to tell her this a few times cause shes slow or something. So she asks who has power of attorney over her, I do I say. So she goes back to asking for my mother.

So I tell her this is starting to sound like a scam and hang up. She calls right after I hang up, then again right after. So I tell scum ok what is the legal issue, she starts telling me my mother missed her first court date. That she is being sued, and gives me a number name and case number then hangs up. So I look up the number and lo and behold it's a scam, trying to scare people into sending her money. Hoping she calls back so I can play along and scare her with the cops are listening as we speak and they are going to find you.  8)

So if you get this call with this info or crap like it  hang up.  18002147811 Denise Haul / Hall 3796489-C83308

I have heard about this type of scam  :swear: where someone calls an unsuspecting (usually senior citizen) and tells them they have missed jury duty (or a court date) and have been charged with contempt of court. At this point the scam artist tries to see if they can get personal/banking info. With all the political phone calls going on now it makes it even harder to filter the scammers from the hired telemarketers. I would suggest telling all your loved ones to NEVER give any personal info over the phone. IF you think it's legit, get all their info such as a call-back number/address and then tell the caller you'll call back & politely hang up. Then check the info with a knowledgable person such as another family member, police, lawyer ect. If they are legit then you can call back and if not report them to the police!  :villagers:

Thanks for sharing! I've received calls like that and they're unbelievable! It seems to me these crooks never get it. Everybody's grown vigilant against scams and there's no way these guys are gonna fool anybody.

As a matter of fact, I have read complaints posted at Callercenter.com about how these crooks never give up trying to scam people even if they're exposed already. Maybe that is why these scammers keep adding new twists to their old tricks. But that ain't working for me.

Sadly I'm sure it works somewhat, but to do this to someone it's just past pathetic.
