Mirrors
« on: April 01, 2015 - 03:12:29 PM »
I have matching aftermarket or reproduction mirrors on my 70 Barracuda (came with them) and cant adjust the passenger side mirror enough to be able to see out of it. Looking through forum post from 09 there was a discussion on the passenger side mirror being smaller than the driver side to allow it to be adjusted far enough in for the driver to see out of it. I'm not familiar with what years / styles fit a 70, do later years still fit the mounting holes? It's a resto-mod so I'm not too worried about keeping original 70 mirrors on it, just looking for mirrors that will fit and I can see out of the passenger side. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You must have aftermarket mirrors. They are probably generic mirrors for all cars.

All E-Body mirrors have the same bolt pattern. The '70 style had a shorter base each side with the passenger's mirror being more tear duct shaped. So besides 70-74 E-Body mirrors, 73-74 B-Body mirrors will work too.

I can't offer any advice for generic mirrors. When I bought my '70, it too had a passenger's side mirror that was useless. They were cheap generics.

Not sure what type of mirrors you have (sport or non-sport) but If the car didn't come with a pass. side mirror and someone installed it, it could be mounted incorrectly or as mentioned not the right mirror at all.

:iagree: Check the passenger side holes measurements (from fender and upper door side) in accordance with the driver side. It should be the same (not exact in some cars but pretty close). Then check the mirrors themselves, (reproduction ones) to see if there is something odd about them. If I remember correctly they have a screw inside the mirror arm, look if it was taken off and then screwed wrong.

Definitely not correct.... the 70 pattern is about 1/8" closer together than the 71-74 pattern...

I had no problem installing 71-74 mirrors on my '70. For what it's worth..

I have to agree, I had 71-74 mirrors on my 70, then both the correct mirrors and they bolted right up (same bolt hole width). Also, I just went out and measured 2 sets of 71-74 and 1 set of 70 and they were all the same. The stem horizontal length (the part that goes against the car) are different lengths with the 71-74 being longer (or wider if you prefer). The mirrors themselves are different shapes with the 70 models more oblong with sharper points, additionally the passenger 70 mirror is a different shape than the drivers side presumably to allow better rearview vision.
