Need 340 T/A engine help on rocker shafts
« on: December 03, 2012 - 07:29:39 PM »
I am having trouble finding out why my stock 340 T/A engine in my '70 AAR 'Cuda is not oiling the shaft and thus the rockers.  The oil just seems to run down from the shaft and not along it, are there supposed to be spacers on the shaft?  Mine has them, but with them on the adjustments on the ends of the rockers for the push rods are maxed out, shouldn't there be more room for adjustment?  Without the spacers there would be, thanks for any help.

Do you have the correct T/A rocker shafts with the "banana groove" oil grooves in the shafts ? The T/A motors had a different rocker shafts than a standard small block if I'm not mistaking I don't know if using the incorrect shafts would cause your problem or not

the shaft should seal against the stands & fill with oil so there is always a supply , if the oiling holes are in the wrong place the oil could drain from the shaft

OK, thanks for all the help, my shafts do not have any grooves around the oil holes in it so it must be a regular 340 rocker shaft someone put on my mistake, or ignorance, when the engine was rebuilt 350 miles and 5 years ago.  I think my new T&D shaft and rockers will fix the problem, as they are guaranteed to be 340 T/A specific.  Thanks again.
