Need some vin / fender tag help
« on: November 30, 2012 - 04:10:20 PM »
I am in the process of doing research on the car, I have the vin number, and some what of a fender tag (really rusty). I plan on have a new one made but need to clarify the numbers. I did do the fender tag decoder. I do have a question but I have not searched the forum yet but plan on doing it. From what I have been reading the vin number I have is JS23N0B124755, when I put his number in the fender tag decoder it puts the JS23 - NOB-124755 on the bottom of the tag. The fender tag that I have the last 6 numbers are different.

My fender tag is as follows from what I can make out.

V9X Y05 26 EN2 J45 M21 N41 N42 N85 R35 V1X A62 C16 C55 G33 H51 FE5 H6X9 000 A22 052069 E63 D21 JS23 NOB 165298

BY looking up the options they are correct for the car, example the red paint is under the blue paing, it does have a 4 speed, bucked seats etc.... The car did come with AC, you can see it on the firewall and has ac control in the car.

Not sure if the 6 digits are tha same as the 6 digits of the vin? I plan on checking the vin on the drivers door jam tonight and compare. I just hope the previous owner or owners screwed around the fender tag.

Any help or info appreciated.

Thanks,

John

You dash VIN and fender tag appear to not match.  Someone could have either changed the dash pad (with the VIN still on it) or put a different with the fender tag on it.  Has there been any body work done?  Check the body stamping numbers on the cowl and radiator support.  Something is not right.  Also check behind and under the seats (front and back), top backside of the glove box and under the carpet for a buildsheet.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Thanks, I will look for the build sheet. Can you attach a photo of where the stamping should be on the radiator support / cowl? I looked last night and I am unsure exactley where to look.

Thanks

Here is the stamping on the radiator support.  You can see it in the lower left of the photo.
Here is a close up

I believe mine got the black spray bomb with the rest of the engine bay, which is why it is hard to read.

well i have looked all around the top of the radiator support and can not see any numbers. I have used a wire brush but no numbers, also a user said the cowl near the grill drivers side. Cant seem to find any thing. I wish i could find a beeter picture of where to look, maybe it is gone over time?

thanks for the help.

Look on the back side/rad side of  the rad support on the left side between the battery and the rad. On the cowl, I found mine between the plastic screen and the hinge. It will say something along the lines of B0 then 6 digits

Thank you so much for all the help guys, that last article did the trick that Brad sent. It seems someone did change out the dash. The good news is I do have a matching number challenger r/t. I could not of located the vins with out your help. I owe you one.......  Hopefully I can return the favor one day. It also appears they had taped up the door vin and painted over it, I guess because it has a salvage title and south carolina hp dept assisgned it a new vin which is mounted on the driver side door jamb. The good news is that the door, cowl, rad support, engine, and fender tag are matching numbers. I have attached the photos in the newbie section, not sure if i am allowed to double post photo's. I am glad to know of this forum and thanks for all the great support. I am sure as the rebuild goes i will be researching and asking more questions. The fender tag stated Bright red / ralley red also a black vinyl top and a black bubble bee strip. I will do some googling tonight to try and find a photo of what it looked like in its original form.

I am not new to the game of cars, just new to dodge. My Brother Jerry and I have a datsun 240z we drag race / grudge race with. Our web page is www.jnjdragracing.com it shows the build and different engine combos we did with the z car, it has been a long time since i updated the web page, also you can search for jnjdragracing on youtube to see our latest engine combo and runs. We went twin 68 mm turbo's and the syaing is true. Once you go turbo there is no turning back.

Thanks again,

John
