    for some reason Dodge didn't go any larger than a 383 for the Challenger verts   :screwy:   but the Cuda verts were offered with 440 and 426's

    IIRC, the Challengers were considered a little more the "refined" and premium car, and the cuda more bare bones. Similar to Pontiacs vs Chevys.
    In all reality, the hemi beast was too much for the vert chassis. From what Ive heard, the weight, the torque, etc were enough to throw off your door alignments after a few good launches.

    I disagree.

    Barracuda base price vs. Challenger base price was $400.00 more.
    Hemi Cuda's came with Shaker as standard equipment. Challenger didn't.

    Wasn't there an issue in manufacturing shakers for challengers that caused the dispairity?
    It also never made sense to me that challenger R/T's have rallye gauges standard, but they were an option for the cuda. :dunno:

    How many 1971 426 Hemi Challengers where made and what are the odds that this one is real?

    If you didn't look under the hood, did you hear it run? What about the VIN and Fender tag?

    Could it have been a / Slant 6 /   ???

    Hey it was the 70's. There was no logic back then.   :smokin:

    Obviously, Plymouth marketing and Dodge marketing Divisions never had enough meetings with each other.

    the two divisions were competitors, and though I dont know for sure, I would think they never met to discuss marketing.
    And I have always heard the challenger was the more "premium" of the two cars. It was priced slightly higher and had a little more cosmetic bling. And as we all know it enjoyed much better sales than the cuda, though both cars were blown away in sales by the other pony cars. But that is also why the cuda is by far the most rare today of all of them.
    As for the subject of the topic though, we all correctly assume it is a clone, but a very nice looking one, dressed in probably the most popular color too.

    So the Chally was about $100 more, or about 3%. The equivalent today of a $1,000 difference on a $30,000 car.
