wiper switch conversion
« on: February 22, 2013 - 12:59:36 AM »
When changing from a 2 spd.wiper motor to a 3 spd, how would you connect the harness to the switch. The big connector plugs right in to the 3spd.switch just like on the 2 spd. switch but that leaves 2 terminals remaining on the switch on opposite ends, and the stock connector is a moulded 2 prong connector that would plug into the 2spd switch but not on the 3 spd switch. I was thinking you have to remove the 2 wires from the connector and run them separate to the switch but wanted to check here first. Thanks

Hopefully this info will help.  Thanks to Slotts at JS Restoration for the white page on testing and wiring the switch.  He's a gem when I have switch problems

I don't know what year car you're working on, but the switches are different between the early and later years.  '70 and '71 are large (about 2 3/8") and the later ones are smaller.  The plugs for 2-speed and 3-speed I believe are the same for the 70 and 71 (they line up) but some of the wires go different places for the bulkhead connector and motor.  On the switches, there are places for two plugs: a 2-wire and and 4-wire.  The 3-speed (variable speed) switch has 7 spade connectors--one spade is bare after plugging in the two plugs.  I don't know too much about the later-year switches and plugs.

Thanks for the contact info. I had the wrong switch. I thought this was a simple changeover, didn't know the linkage was different too. Anyone have an extra 3 speed linkage they want to sell?
