Fender removal 70 Challenger
« on: December 18, 2012 - 02:21:33 PM »
I have the US Cartool inner fender/cowl brackets coming and have to remove the fenders.
I'm assuming the bumper and grill assembly need to come off too?
I've had a look and cam see most of what needs to come off but is there a fastener on the cowl to fender? I can see what looks to be a stud and nut but can't figure how you get at it? ( When I look through the open door to the fender)
What about the antenna?  does it unplug at the fender or do I need to fish it out under the dash?
Anyone have any pictures that would help?
  Thanks Brad

Brad,

My only experience with removing front fenders was on a late 70's Mopar. So what I may say might be of no help to you.

The antenna will have to be unplugged from the radio. I think this is easier than trying to remove it from the fender before you have taken it off.  There will probably be a bolt at the bottom of the fender that you can only get at with the door open and an extension on your ratchet. I don't know about the fastener from the cowl you are talking about. Do you have a picture? The grill and bumper should not have to be removed.

Unplug the antenna from the radio , remove the floor side kick panel and insulation feed the antenna cable throught , the antenna is attached from the top just uncrew antenna and lock down ring and reach in and catch it with the door open.

Also, do I need to remove those plastic splash shields?

I'm thinking that studs attaches to this part ? Correct? Looks to be a bugger to get at?

Yes the stud is attached to that part. A looong extension with a deep socket works best. Remove the plastic shield. It would
probably be easiest to remove the front bumper so you can slide the fender forward so as not to scratch
the cowl or a pillar area.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

For the stud and nut in the door jam, if you have an air ratchet and a long socket, it makes the work easy.
