Cars and driving in Saudi Arabia
« on: November 21, 2012 - 01:07:51 PM »
1 - the curbs here are about 12 inches tall. When I asked why, I was told "So people don't drive on the sidewalks"

2 - I've been here about two weeks. In that time, I've seen a Maserati at a strip mall, a Ferrari, and a Lamborghini pulling into the cheap little cafeteria where I eat. Tons of money here  :grinyes:

I'm going out picture taking tomorrow, but I have to be careful. Among other things, they lynch people for taking pictures of women. Seriously.

Which city are you in??  I have 13 one-month long trips to the Capitol Ryhad. That was back in the late '80s through mid '90s. I really enjoyed the trips. Make sure you go shopping at gold souchs (markets). I saw some exotic cars back then, but mainly little white Toyota pickup tucks. Take care and send updates.

Granted  the one that really struck me was the Lambo, which I saw pulling into the parking lot of my crappy dining hall. It's as if someone in the states drove a Lambo to a Western Sizzlin' Steak House.

I'm in Dhahran, a couple of hours from Riyad, on the Arabian Gulf coast. I was at the souqs today, but they were closed at the time. Which is fine, because I was taking pics.
